How do I replace my MVHR-filters?

There will come a time when you need to replace the filters in your HRV unit. But why change your filters and if you want to do this, how? Through this blog, we want to explain this to you and also clarify the reason behind it.

When is the right time to change my MVHR-filters?

There is no exact time to replace your filters. However, every six months you will see a message on the unit that your MVHR-filters need to be replaced. This message often does not take into account how dirty the filters are, but comes automatically. It depends on where you live and what season we are in how dirty your filters are. If we look at spring, there are obviously more pollen and pollen particles in the air. Therefore the filters fill up faster. This can also happen in a new housing estate or places where a lot of building work is going on. Because of the construction dust, the filters will also fill up faster. WE recommend to keep it on an average of half a year. However, this can be sooner in springtime and possibly later in winter.

How often should I replace my filters?

Now you are naturally wondering when you really need to change your filters. As you can read above, this is approximately twice a year. You can check your filters yourself. The new filters are usually white*. If the filters are light grey, you don't need to replace them right away. In that case we advise you to check them again after 1-2 months. If your filters are dark grey or black, they need to be replaced.

*There are some products where the filters are pink, blue or black.

If I am going to replace the filters, how do I replace them?

We cannot give you one clear answer. We recommend that you read the user manual of your MVHR-unit beforehand.

Step 1. Can you select the function 'Change filters' on your HRV unit? If so, select this option and then proceed to step 2. Does your unit not have this function? Then make sure that you first unplug your unit from the socket.

Step 2. Then you can remove the old filters from the unit.

Tip: When removing the old filters, pay attention to how they were placed in the HRV-unit. The new filters have to be placed in the same way.

Step 3. Place the new filters in the HRV-unit in the same way.

Step 4. If you unplugged the unit in step 1, you can plug it in again. After this your HRV-unit will start up again.

Why do I need to replace my filters?

The reason that you should replace your filters is to ensure clean air in your home. However, that is not the only reason. The clean MVHR-filters provide less air resistance. What does that mean? Your unit has to work less hard to transport the air through the unit and the air circulation remains optimal. The result: lower energy costs. With clean filters, you get clean air in your home and you save on your energy costs.

What is the reason for having clean air in the house?

Having clean air in your home means less dust and bacteria in the air. This reduces the chance of respiratory irritations, allergies and headaches. In order to filter the air as well as possible, you can choose a particulate filter for your unit. This filter is better able to filter smaller dust particles than a filter with a lower filter class.
